Overview
HAVAFoam is an in-house high-speed flow solver developed within the OpenFOAM framework for compressible, reacting and hypersonic flows. It combines advanced shock-capturing techniques with detailed thermodynamic and chemical-kinetic models to predict complex flows involving multiple gas species, combustion and nonequilibrium effects.
HAVAFoam supports a wide range of numerical methods, including high-resolution flux schemes and modern Riemann solvers, for robust and accurate solutions of challenging aerodynamic and propulsion problems. It is compatible with both Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) and Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence modelling, from engineering design to high-fidelity flow physics.
To handle extreme gradients such as shock waves, expansion fans and hypersonic flow fields efficiently, HAVAFoam uses adaptive mesh refinement (AMR), which concentrates resolution where it is needed and reduces cost while keeping accuracy.
